Perhaps I'm wrong on this issue but I also heard a huge chunk of the reason marijuana is illegal is due to the loss of revenue it would cause the petroleum industry. The growing of marijuana and hemp products alike could take over so many aspects of life it's quite amazing. It can be used for paper products, clothing, apparel, ropes, and most importantly gas! Legalizing cannabis would make all hemp production uncontrollable. They already have limitations on hemp products and the shit doesn't even get you high. Now why would they put limitation on a product that you can't get high off of? Partly because of the connection to marijuana but mainly because of the loss of revenue. It's such a versatile product you can make practically anything out of it. But once it was found to produce gas at a faster pace which would put oil companies out of business because of the speed it can be produce which provides cheaper fuel costs and essentially more jobs for everyone. That right there should be the main focus for legallizing. And everyone in the world right now is ready for an innovative idea for cheaper fuel cost and something a little more enviromentally friendly.

The whole argument of keeping marijuana illegal is ridiculous. Cannabis wasn't illegalized in the first place because the government thought they were doing what was best for the population. It was about racism and associating the drug with the influx of Mexicans that came here in the 20s and 30s. Associate marijuana with foreign "invaders" and 'Boom!' its illegal. Its completely sad. The whole issue is completely unconstitutional and has been pointed out to Congress numerous times, but they chose to ignore it. The fact is, that marijuana users like ourselves are powerless in this country. The older, moral majority in this country, particularly 40-70 year olds hold the power. Some of them may have been flower children and baby boomers, but the majority aren't. Most of them are Christian Republicans who have believe that they know what's best for everyone. Its sad. Until we finally get someone in the White House like Ron Paul or Obama, things won't change. It sucks.

I have to disagree with the Republican section. There are just as many right-winged potheads as there are left-winged. I am personally libertarian, but have grown up around republican potheads. Republicans are not out to convince you to be racist or prejudice. Yes, many republicans have had a reputation for being racist or prejudice, but you cannot be prejudice toward Republicans by saying they're all out to convince the world to HATE certain groups. Your stooping down to the level that you are criticizing. Doesn't that seem ironic and childish? That sort of immature unprofessionalism is exactly what people expect from the typical "pothead." Is that the stigma you want to give to the rest of us who simply enjoy smoking ganja over drinking alcohol? Please be careful what you say in this drug war, and make sure that you are not implying that you speak for all of us.

a few of my friends said that they read somewhere and it said that marijuana doesnt kill your brain cells that it just puts them in a comma like stage and it takes about 20 years for them to get back to normal. so really the only way that you would have mental problems is because your entire brain is in a comma like stage. i have smoked since i was 6 and im almost 17 and im one of the smartest girls in my school. so i dont think it causes big mental problems, maybe not cause any at all!!

Just legalize everything. The drug war is a farce. The real crime is the war on drugs. Ppl are not afraid of drugs. There is a drug store on every corner. If it is mind-expanding drugs we are afraid of, it is obviously the mind expansions we fear. The ppl in power want to stay in power. The ppl with money want to keep their money. The ppl that want us to be afraid of mind expanding drugs have a heavily vested interest in our minds remaining quite narrow!

You give them a card, and in order to be eligible for the card they must work full-time and pay the same amount of taxs as everybody else. So they stay a member of society and get to do what they want. If they slip and lose their job; they lose their card and their right to smoke.

I understand how people link it negitivity but i don't agree with why. People should be responsible for their own actions and not use a drug as an excuse. They are still them, whatever a drugs does.

Zac - Very constructive, your opinions are welcomed. I think I may have not properly communicated my points properly in some parts of the above post. Reading it back, some parts dont make full sense. This will be corrected in due course.

Buying an 8th from tesco every week? that sounds like heaven. Imagine what a tesco value eigth baggy would look like, would be we an extra clubcard point if we brought them back as well as normal carrying bags =D

I have had vast experiences with cannabis that have taken me to some high and low low times in life. If anything its only made me stronger!

Lee: How would you control something like that? Limit people to x amount a week for example? That would be very hard to integrate. It has being projected in the wrong way. For example youths of today are getting a lot of bad press, youths of today smoke cannabis. Its easy to understand how people link it with negativity.

i think it SHOULD be legalized but should be controlled. If i had "constant" access to pot i would never get anywhere. I disagree with the way it is being projected; but it can cause mental issues to emerge in the wrong people because they can not deal with it. So the way it is now can stop a lot of pot going to this type of person. I dunno, im a mix with this.
